George’s Welding Installs 33,000-Pound Plate at Okan Tower

George’s Welding has executed a vital step at Okan Tower with the installation of a massive 33,000-pound steel plate, a critical component in the structural system of the soaring 70-story, 902-foot tower currently rising in Downtown Miami.

Serving as a key transfer element, the massive plate plays a vital role in redirecting the loads of the tower’s upper floors down into the foundation and supporting columns. The installation required meticulous planning, coordination, and execution. From fabrication in the shop to transportation through Miami’s busy streets, every step was carefully managed before the plate was lifted into position and secured. Its placement marks a significant advancement in the construction timeline and highlights the essential role of steelwork in bringing this iconic mixed-use development to life.

Okan Tower, inspired by the shape of a blossoming tulip, is set to transform the Miami skyline. With residences, a five-star hotel, office space, and retail, the project exemplifies the city’s continued growth as a global hub. For George’s Welding, contributing to this landmark structure showcases the company’s expertise in handling some of the most challenging and technically demanding projects in South Florida.
