George’s Welding marked a key achievement in the construction of the Sky Building, a mixed-use development in downtown Oakland Park, with the successful fabrication, transportation, and installation of the steel bridge that now connects the project’s two towers across Park Lane.

The pedestrian bridge, links the north and south buildings and provides both functional connectivity and a defining visual element that will distinguish the project upon completion. Its installation required precise coordination, from detailed shop fabrication to the complex logistics of transporting and securing the structure above a busy roadway.

The Sky Building is a signature project for Oakland Park, created through a public-private partnership between NR Investments and the City of Oakland Park. Designed by Zyscovich Architects, the development will include 136 residential units, consisting of 119 apartments and 17 live/work spaces, along with 15,000 square feet of ground-floor retail and commercial space. More than 300 parking spaces will be available through a combination of structured and on-street facilities, and the south building will house new offices for Oakland Park City Hall, bringing municipal services into the heart of downtown.
As part of the city’s vision for sustainable growth, the project also incorporates affordable housing, with at least 20 percent of residences designated for households earning up to 120 percent of the area median income and the remainder affordable for households earning up to 140 percent. In addition to expanding housing options, the Sky Building is expected to serve as a catalyst for economic development, accessibility, and walkability in Oakland Park’s urban core.
“The installation of the Sky Building bridge represents a defining moment in this development,” said a George’s Welding spokesperson. “It showcases our team’s full capabilities, from shop fabrication to complex site installation, and highlights the role steel plays in shaping the future of our communities.”

With the bridge now in place, the Sky Building moves closer to its anticipated completion in 2026. Once finished, the project will stand as a central hub of residential, commercial, and civic life in Oakland Park, supporting the city’s long-term vision of a vibrant and connected downtown.
